Q&A: Troubleshooting Webcam Issues

Follow

If you're looking for help on setting up your webcam, please check out our step-by-step guide, "How to: Set up your webcam". This article will help you troubleshoot some common webcam-related issues.

Q: Why can't I access my webcam?

A: If you're having trouble with your webcam, it is often related to your Adobe Flash Settings. First things first, make sure that you've installed the latest version of Adobe Flash. If that's done then make sure Flash is enabled on your browser, the default setting on Chrome is often to disable Flash so it's a good idea to double check:

Q: What if I don't have a webcam? Can I use my tablet or smartphone?

A: In order to use the Kira platform, you'll need to use a device with a working front-facing camera. At this time, the platform is not supported on tablets (including Microsoft Surface Pro or iPad) so please use a desktop/laptop.

Q: How do I switch to my front-facing camera (so I can record myself vs my desk)?

A: You'll need to open up your Flash Player Settings. To do that, right-click the inside the webcam view > click on "Settings"

In the settings box, click on the small webcam tab > Choose the correct camera view from the drop down menu > Click "X" to close the box. Smile for the camera!

Remember, mobile devices such as phones or tablets are not supported at this time so make sure you're using a desktop/laptop with a working front-facing camera.

Q: What should I do if my webcam is taking a long time to load?

A: 1. Refresh your browser. If that doesn't work, quit your browser completely or restart your computer and try again. You'll able to pick up where you left off.
2. Make sure ad-blockers and firewalls are disabled as sometimes they can cause connection issues.
3. Check that you have stable internet connection (Click to see: "Q&A Internet Connection")
